Ms. Staal comes to GCG after nearly 13 years with Dechert LLP (formerly Swidler Berlin Shereff Friedman) as Counsel and a member of the bankruptcy department litigating bankruptcy cases as well as cases involving securities fraud and contract disputes. Additionally, she represented debtors, secured creditors, unsecured creditors, indenture trustees, officers and directors in bankruptcy proceedings and non-judicial workouts. Prior to joining Dechert LLP, Ms. Staal was an Associate at Willkie Farr & Gallagher, where she litigated cases in the areas of securities fraud, bankruptcy, art law, banking, government contracts, environmental law and civil rights.
Ms. Staal received her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law, where she was the Articles Editor for the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology. She completed her undergraduate work at Cornell University’s College of Arts and Sciences, where she graduated cum laude. She has been admitted to practice in New York State and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Ms. Staal has a leadership role at her synagogue, is a volunteer at the Make-a-Wish Foundation and at a local soup kitchen.
